Marcos Souza
Composer and producer of soundtracks

Marcos is a soundtrack composer and producer. He is son of the composer Chico Mário, who was brother of the famous cartoonist Henfil and the sociologist Betinho. He produced the film “3 Irmãos de Sangue”, which is about his family, with Ângela Patrícia Reiniger as a director and Chico Mário, a melody of freedom by Silvio Tendler. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kGCBLff7cw
By 2008, Marcos Souza screened his film “3 Irmãos de Sangue” and played piano in Tropentheater, together with Lilian Vieira in Amsterdam. In 2009, he moved to Amsterdam, where he was an adviser of Brazilian films at the Beeld voor Beeld Film Festival at the Tropentheater. In 2009 he composed the soundtrack for a play called “Amor” and played live on a presentation. This play was produced by the theatre group Munganga: https://vimeo.com/11080357
In 2010 he started his Master’s degree in Brazilian contemporary dance and piano play at the Codarts, and he also produced a famous “choro” gathering (a popular style of Brazilian music, similar to samba) called “roda de choro” at Tia Piripiri Bar, both in Rotterdam. In this same year, the artist released the album “Dance Improvisation” and “Winds of Amsterdam”, in which he recorded themes for dance presentations. He worked as the director of the short film “Vivo na Flauta”, and of television programs for TV MultiRio. Besides that, he worked in other projects and DVDs as journalist and producer, and in several films, theater, dance and television soundtracks.
Recently, he has worked as music director and composer of the original soundtrack for the movie “Betinho, Uma Esperança Equilibrista”, created by Victor Lopes, also in the film “Henfil”, by Angela Zoé and Documenta Filmes and Globonews and in the film “Angel Vianna – Voando com os pés no Chão”, by Cristina Leal. Currently, he is concluding the music of the film “Ibiúna” and film “Chico Mário, a melody of freedom” about his father, both by the filmmaker Silvio Tendler. Also just finished more 2 soundtracks by Angela Zoé movies: Lá e Cá about Brazilian and Portuguese immigration and “Hoje Não” about Parkinson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5OS2WXSPjg
I really enjoy working in TV and film production, composing and producing soundtracks. Whe it’s possible, I like to be involved right from the start of the project, so we can think together about the role and concept of the music, what to do within the budget, managing original and/or licensed soundtracks… Saving time and budget on the audiovisual production. In addition to my experience with music supervision and original music, I have a bank of tracks with almost 200 of my own songs and those of my father, Chico Mário.
